Earthbound is a game that will forever remain on my top ten list. I've made it a goal to play the game through every summer for the past five or six years. It has been credited as one of the first non Final Fantasy RPG's and serves the title well. As you play through the game you go up against an unfathomable number of random enemies that will keep you questioning what drugs were used in the making of this game. You'll fight everything from poisonous mushrooms to dinosaurs and still be surprised at what battles await. As the game progresses, Ness (the story's protagonist) and his companions find new gear and increase their strengths for their final fight with the most powerful of enemies. The weapons throughout the game are fitting for that of a twelve year old kid (the relative age of Ness) spanning from baseball bats to yo-yo's to Frying pans as well as a bazooka.
As you enter the town of Onett for the first time, it will grasp you. The game is by any standards incredible and it is a game I suggest to anyone I play Super Smash Brothers with, if nothing else for the benefit of the mysterious character Ness' backstory.
Every summer? Does it end up being the same thing each time? Or do you encounter new items or anything different?

The story line doesn't change, but there are side quests and weapons that are hard to obtain that an additional play through helps give you the enjoyment of finding. Otherwise it's just an incredibly fun game. :)
